The following urgent needs were established through our site visit:

Infrastructure:

  • Insufficient classroom blocks to properly house all learners.
  • Need for a dedicated Admin block.
  • Requirement for proper soundproof partitions for shared classroom blocks.

Learning Resources:

  • Low teacher-to-student ratio (still needs enhancement).
  • Inadequate access to learning materials.
  • Insufficient student desks (currently, a minimum of 7 students share one desk).

Health & Nutrition:

  • Dietary inadequacy(children often share minimal food, usually just a bottle of milk brought from home).
  • Need for a functional water purification system.

Social & Security:

  • High incidence of early marriages.
  • Immediate requirement for school fencing.

Empoo Primary School

School Profile Snapshot

  • Location: 6 km from the Ololaimutia gate. The road is generally motorable, but access from the camp requires a significant 1.5 hours one way.
  • Student Population: A total of 357 students (175 boys, 182 girls), spanning from Pre-primary 1 through Grade 7.
  • Infrastructure: The school currently utilizes 7 blocks as classrooms to accommodate the entire population.
  • Staffing Status: Operates with 12 teachers, resulting in a manageable 1:30 teacher-to-student ratio.

Our Phased Strategy for Growth

The school demonstrates great potential for growth due to its currently effective administration. To raise the school’s standards and allow it to compete fairly with institutions across the country, we propose the following phased projects:

Short-Term Projects (0–3 Months)

  • Provide desks to ensure the comfort and proper seating of all students in the classroom.
  • Develop an EdTech project design suitable for the school’s learning needs.
  • Install proper soundproof partitions for shared classroom blocks to improve learner concentration.
  • Fundraise for book donations for the scholars.

Medium-Term Projects (12–18 Months)

  • Fundraise for the construction of a girl’s dormitory, three new classroom blocks, and an administrative block.
  • Fully implement a pilot EdTech program in at least one class.
  • Fundraise for and fence off the school with secure electric fencing.
  • Conduct capacity building training for existing staff members.

Long-Term Goals

  • Initiate a sustainable school feeding program incorporated with a school farm and a modern irrigation system.
  • Mainstream EdTech in all classrooms in the school.
  • Fully implement nutritional programs in line with the feeding program.
  • Enhance staffing in the school to reduce the teacher-to-student ratio to a target of at least 1:25.
  • Install a water purification system alongside a functional rain water harvesting system.
