The Lazizi Welfare Foundation, in partnership with The Ritz-Carlton,Masai Mara Safari Camp and JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge, is dedicated to redefining responsible tourism in ecologically sensitive environments. Every initiative, whether in energy, water, or waste management reflects our deep respect for nature and our commitment to ensuring that the beauty of the Masai Mara thrives for generations to come.

Key Initiatives

Renewable Energy Leadership: Our Lodges are fully solar-powered, featuring a 650kW solar farm and 7,000kWh of battery storage, making them among the most energy-efficient safari properties in East Africa. This clean energy infrastructure can power the entire property for up to three days, significantly reducing our carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels.

Water Conservation & Circular Use: We operate a closed-loop water treatment system that recycles greywater and harvests rainwater, ensuring a sustainable supply of clean water and responsible sanitation. This approach minimizes environmental impact while supporting the well-being of both guests and local ecosystems.

Zero-Waste & Circular Economy: Through the Lazizi Welfare Foundation, we have institutionalized a zero-waste-to-landfill policy, segregating waste at source and transforming it into purpose.

• Glass waste is repurposed into handcrafted gift items such as tumblers and key holders.
• Organic waste is composted using black soldier fly larvae, creating nutrient-rich compost for our herb gardens.
• Paper, metal, and plastics are sent to certified recyclers, ensuring responsible processing.

These practices embody our shift toward a circular economy, where every byproduct is reintegrated into a sustainable cycle of use.

Sustainable Hospitality Practices: Across guest areas at the Lodges, we’ve eliminated single-use plastics and introduced refillable amenities. The teams are trained in waste reduction and energy efficiency best practices, reinforcing a culture of sustainability at every level of operation.
